Some more about Rania and Saud. Interestingly, at least one of the Saudi judges has stated that Bahain’s Sunni Shariah courts are not Shariah courts.

It also appears that both Rania and Saud had been sentenced to receive lashes as well as they are called ‘adulterers’ because as the court annulled the marriage then they must have been living together as adulterers.

This all seems to tie off as well with the following story, Many Women Shunning Marriage, indicating that Saudi women are more and more reluctant to get marry, and that more and more of them are divorcing. No surprise really.

One thing that I did not know though is that for the last 10 years the Saudi Government has been actively trying to discourage the marriage of Saudi’s to foreigners. It seems that foreign men are seen as good husband material. It also seems that Saudi women generally may have a little more control over who they meet and ultimately marry than appears to be the case to foreigners.
