Janadriya Festival — Ban on Families to Stay

Well, if it is not married couples being forcibly divorced by third parties, then it is the poor treatment afforded to families in Saudi Arabia in the name of morality. Really. Families (that is women with or without children and with or without their husbands) are expected to attend a cultural heritage evening on a different night to single men (that is, er, single men and married me without their wives but maybe with at least some of the children. The Janadriya Festival — Ban on Families to Stay discusses this and notes that this is the same practice that has occurred in the past.

The reason that the families have to attend on a separate night is that the Kingdom’s morality police (The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice) requires this. The morality police (Muttawah in Arabic) are trying to prevent lascivious and licentious behaviour by ensuring that women and men do not mix in a social environment.

Well hello guys – they seem to be able to mix everywhere else in the world without lasciviousness or licentiousness. Is it really just Saudi Arabia where this is a problem?

Of course the really silly thing is that even on family nights, there are many single men present, namely, the security guys, the staff of the event etc. What is even sillier is that when you go to a restaurant here, there are separate family sections to keep women away from single men – single men that is except for those that are the waiters and staff of the restaurant because, after all, women are restricted here to where they can work and the work they can do.

About the only public entertainment type place where everyone can mingle is a shopping mall.

well, I am a Muslim and i have been living here in KSA all my life.

and to tell u that this ppl usually have double standards on everything. the fault is not in the religion itself that is Islam. The fault is rather in the education provided to the members of the commission aka Muttawah.

These Muttawahs are the ones that create such barriers through their usually twisted sense of the religion itself. Example recently a saudi woman was arrested in starbucks for having coffee with her co-worker, now in Islam it is forbidden for women to stay alone IN PRIVATE with another non related man, as these would lead to sexual desires or mite invite indecent lookin at each other. But Starbucks family section is filled with other families and other ppl including staff, then why wud the Muttawah arrest her claiming she is with a non related male in seclusion?

No one can answer that nevertheless we can clearly see that these so called Muttawahs are uneducated even when it comes to Islam and applying it, which ironically they are hired to do

    thnx
