Music

I was working at the office today, listening to my Nirvana collection with the headphones on to cut the background noise. It then occurred to me that way back when, when music was on vinyl and was played on turntables with oil dampened arms and new diamond needles, when the amplifiers and the speakers where carefully selected for a great sound experience, I used to sit and just listen to the music.

Now in this digital music age, even though there are fine speakers and amplifiers available, and whilst music is still an important part of me, I have found that it is very rare for me to sit down now and just listen to an album. Now I find that I do not really listen to music any more, but rather I use music. I use it to accompany whatever I am doing – working, reading, writing, painting, travelling, pretty much everything.

I am not sure when it changed and whilst I miss the times of just sitting and listening to an album, I think I appreciate the music more now as it is ingrained in my life.
