I find it so relaxing to paint wargame figures. Sitting with the figure, a brush, some paint and some research material, brush stroking the figure gently in an attempt to later fool the viewer’s eyes, it is almost mantric in being able to clear the head and relax. The problem is that I have not been able to paint for the last two years so not only has the mantric effect of painting fled but it has taken my skill with it.
See the example attached here. I painted, washed and dry-brushed – my usual technique – and it looks pretty awful. Back to the drawing board (which is one of the advantages of painting wargame figures, if you do a bad job you can always just paint over the top).
I am sure the skills, such as they were, will return. In the meantime, I will need to find some other temporary means of relaxing.
