Cancon 2014 — DBA competition

I can thoroughly recommend Cancon. Asian DBA gamers especially, get down to Canberra for Cancon 2014. two days of gaming, maybe 12 games in total plus access to the likes of Eureka Miniatures (order ahead of time and Nic will bring to Cancon for collection – saves the postage).

Best of all, for the international traveller, bringing two 15mm DBA armies is a fairly straightforward process and a little forward planning means that they will travel well in the carry on baggage – although there will be “oohs” and “aahs” at the security checks 🙂

At Cancon for 2014 Greg Kelleher will be once again running the DBA competition. For 2014, DBA will be a 2 day tournament:

  • The 1st day will be restricted to armies from Books 1 and 2,
  • The 2nd day only armies from Books 3 and 4 will be eligible to be used.

With the current flux regarding rules, version 2.2 will be used. There will be a Books 1 and 2 champion, a Books 3 and 4 champion and an overall champion, as well as other prize categories. The dates for Cancon are Saturday 25th-Monday 27th January 2014. DBA will be played on 25 and 26 January. Playing on the Saturday and Sunday will allow those needing to travel an extra day to complete their trip before having to return to work/school.

More details regarding the competition can be found at http://www.cgs.asn.au/cancon/tournaments-2/. Registration can be made athttp://www.southernbattlegamers.org/cgssite/index.php?option=com_dtregister&Itemid=1.

Greg has requested space for up to 40 players. However, as there is a finite amount of space at the venue, places may be forfeited if other competitions fill their quotas. So the moral of the story is register early and Greg won’t have to turn away potential players, as he had to do for Cancon 2013.

I had a ball at Cancon 2013, not performing as well as I did in 2011 but had great fun never-the-less.

Please pass this message on to anyone you think may be interested.

And I note there are a few enthusiastic DBMM players in NZ, HK and Thailand.. so don’t ignore the DBMM2 competition either.

Will you be going this year, and if so, will you be bringing some new armies to play with (like say, the Khmer ;)?

We haven’t decided yet. We will be back over Christmas and then back to Singapore mid January so may not have the time or money to head back for Cancon.

However the lady has just taken possession of a DBA Mongol Army that she wants to paint so this whole plan could well change in the next six weeks.

Hah, well, I enjoyed your Cancon DBA painting diary last year. What manufacturer are the Mongols? I picked up an Alain Toullier Mongol army a while back (still unpainted, naturally! 🙂 and it looks really nice.

The Mongols are Naismith Design from Navwar. The Lady examined most of the Mongols available in 15mm and pronounced Naismith accurate – so who am I to argue? 🙂

She will be painting those herself. I am still thinking about whether I can afford the time and the money for Cancon 2014 – but will likely select two armies to work on just in case I decide to go. Will decide on the armies this week.

I like the Alain Toullier figures myself. I have some of those in stock for later painting myself.

You will have to post pics of Tseye’s painting project.
