Model Painting Colours – Reference for My Benefit

This page has been set  purely as a way for me to keep track of remember different  paints I use when painting model ships, soldiers, aircraft etc. It is mostly useful for my wargaming models. I am leaving the page up here,  open and searchable, in case some items might be useful to other wargamers. It is a “dynamic” page in that data will be added to it periodically.

Naval

World War 1 and earlier

Japan

Ships that were built for and/or taken into the Japanese navy were painted in various greys, depending on which arsenal the vessels were built in our had last been serviced/upgraded in.

Arsenal Colour Paint Manufacturer Code> Comment
Maizuru Grey Tamiya XF-87
Kure Grey Tamiya XF-75
Sasebo Grey Tamiya XF-77
Yokosuka Grey Tamiya LP-15 Note that this is a lacquer and will need the Tamiya Lacquer thinner if you are working with it. I have not found this in the water-based acrylics range.
