This page has been set purely as a way for me to keep track of remember different paints I use when painting model ships, soldiers, aircraft etc. It is mostly useful for my wargaming models. I am leaving the page up here, open and searchable, in case some items might be useful to other wargamers. It is a “dynamic” page in that data will be added to it periodically.
Naval
World War 1 and earlier
Japan
Ships that were built for and/or taken into the Japanese navy were painted in various greys, depending on which arsenal the vessels were built in our had last been serviced/upgraded in.

---|---|---|---|---|
Maizuru | Grey | Tamiya | XF-87 | |
Kure | Grey | Tamiya | XF-75 | |
Sasebo | Grey | Tamiya | XF-77 | |
Yokosuka | Grey | Tamiya | LP-15 | Note that this is a lacquer and will need the Tamiya Lacquer thinner if you are working with it. I have not found this in the water-based acrylics range. |
World War 2
Japan
Ships that were built for and/or taken into the Japanese navy were painted in various greys, depending on which arsenal the vessels were built in our had last been serviced/upgraded in. This practice had been in play for some 50 or 60 years prior to the second World War.
